2 Months Old

Oh boy, has it been 2 months already! Guess that means I have to go back to work soon, boo. This past month, Noah has really been working on his strength, and learning what he can and can't do. He is getting really good at lifting his head for long periods of time. He is starting to coo and laugh more socially now. He stays awake for longer periods of time. I guess we can say we are getting into more of a routine, or at least going to start establishing one.

A typical day for Noah starts with waking up early, like around 6-7am. He stays awake for 1-2 hours, then starts to get tired again, so he lays down for a couple hours. His sleep in the morning is very light. He wakes up every so often, but usually he is content where he is at. I will either put him in his swing, bouncer, or hold him for this naptime. When he wakes up, he will eat, get a diaper change, and then be awake for another couple hours. This stretch is typically longer than the early morning one. I take him around the house with me to do chores and make lunch for Aidan and me. Depending on his mood, I will either place him in the bouncer or put him in my Boba Wrap. He likes to be in the wrap most of the time. Sometimes he gets too wiggly for it, and I have to use another method. He sleeps great in it though. After lunch, around 1-2pm, he will lay down for his 'solid' nap. This nap he will usually sleep in his crib for 2-3 hours at a time. This allows for me to get more stuff done around the house. When he wakes up in the early evening (about 3-4pm), he will most likely be awake for 3-4 hours. This is his longest stretch of awakeness, and most often takes place in the evening. Sometimes, he has a long period of awakeness in the morning, but not very often. He will eat again about 7-8pm, and again before I go to bed between 10-10:30pm. There is the rare occasion that he will skip the last feeding and wake up about 2-3 am for a feeding. This will vary depending on what are plans are for the day. If we were to stay home all day and have no errands for the day, it will usually go as above. If we have to go out, his sleep will vary greatly due to being in the car seat and moved around so much.

Around 7-8 weeks old, we took our first road trip to Texas to see my sister and her family. Now Noah will normally enjoy car rides, and will do quite well during them. But if they last longer than, oh lets say 6-8 hours, he will begin to hate them. We had to stop every 3-4 hours for feedings and diaper changes (also for us to eat/stretch). On the way down to Texas, about 20 minutes from our destination, Noah began to cry. We were so close to my sister's that I really didn't want to stop and feed him (plus it was 11pm), so we pushed our way through in order to get out of the car for good. On the way home, he did great up until about 1-1.5 hours away from home. Of course on each way, we had a diaper blowout. Guess the vibrations from the car does that to a kid. Either way, we made it home. And we all enjoyed our 1 week 'vacation' to Texas.

Feeding: Continues to eat every 3 hours, more often if we are going through a growth spurt. Noah tends to eat more often in the evenings, like every 2 hours. We are still on breastmilk exclusively. And he doesn't like taking bottles. When we do give him one, it takes him a good 20-30 minutes to get 2-3 ounces down. He is getting more spitty after feedings, probably due to overeating. We aren't too concerned about it though.

Sleep: We are still waking up every 3 hours at night. Sometimes though, we have a stretch from when he firsts lays down to his first wake up feeding of about 4-6 hours. Again, usually doesn't fuss too much when going back down for bed. Noah is a loud sleeper, makes all sorts of noise from grunting to cooing to singing. It's really annoying when momma is trying to rest too cause it sounds like he is awake all the time.

Doctor's Visit: We had our 2 month visit this month. Noah grew 2 inches since he was born. His congestion is potentially related to the dry air. We may try a humidifier to see if that helps at all. He does have some dandruff/cradle cap which we plan on using some ointment for. We started him on a multivitamin with iron. Not the best tasting stuff if you ask me. It definitely doesn't smell great. Noah has his 2 month shots as well (3 sticks, and  1 oral). He didn't do well, which was expected. We gave him some Tylenol once he got home for any discomfort.

Weight: 11 lbs 5oz (33rd percentile weight-age)

Height: 23 inches (56th percentile length-age) (18th percentile weight-length)

Clothing: We are basically in 0-3 month clothes. Except for onesies, he has upgraded to 3-6 months since he is long in the torso. Newborn size pants are getting to be a little short, so we are towards the end of the road for them. No shoes yet, so unknown size. We are wrapped up the newborn size diapers and are into size 1. Still a huge fan of Pampers verses any other brands. Noah has some long/big feet (like his daddy), so the sleepers in 0-3 months are getting too small in the feet. We haven't moved up in size yet, but I have a feeling it won't be too much longer.

Likes: car rides (short ones anyways), being rocked, swing, bouncer, eating, being held upright so he can see everything, mirrors

Dislikes: tummy time, sleep (sometimes), baths (still, but getting better), shots (what kid does?)

Milestones this month: recognizing reflections in mirrors, grabbing for items, ability to hold onto something for a short time, cooing, laughing, lots of smiling, rolling over to his side from his back, lifting head and holding it up for over a minute, first road trip, intense interest in hands (like watching them while fidgeting with them)
